‘Rippaverse’ Triumphant: Eric July’s Isom #2 Cracks $1M in Sales in Under a Week

With the release of Isom #1 last year, Eric July created history. The comic not only generated more pre-orders than most Marvel and DC Comics do, but it also garnered media attention from people like Glenn Beck and FOX News, earning over $3.7 million in sales.

Both July’s critics and supporters have been speculating about whether the second chapter of the new superhero universe, known as the Rippaverse, would be as popular. We know the answer now that within the first 48 hours earned almost $1 million—Rippaverse fans aren’t going anywhere. The campaign is currently closing in on $1.4 million after less than a week, and this is in the face of serious website issues, which have occasionally hindered Isom #2’s campaign.

July wisely avoided popular crowdfunding websites like Kickstarter and Indiegogo, which have been known to shadowban campaigns, and outright cancel others arbitrarily. With his own website, he is able to avoid campaigns to have him “cancelled,” which sites like Crowdfundr have admittedly done in the past. Of course, having it hosted it on his own website means he has to deal with any DDOS attacks and other bandwidth issues, but they appear to have resolved the problems for now.

Isom #2 is again written by Eric July, with pencils by Cliff Richards, inks by Gabe Eltaeb, and lettering by Eric Weathers. Other well known comicbook pros Ethan Van Sciver, Shane Davis, and Ternion, Brett R. Smith, and others have also contributed work to the latest issue’s variant covers. Rppaverse fans also cheered at the idea of new superhero stories from another acclaimed writer that’s been blacklisted by mainstream comic publishers when it was revealed earlier in the month that famous comic writer Chuck Dixon would be joining the Rippaverse for a team book called Alphacore.

It appears as though Isom #2 will be smashing records once more to become another success for Eric July and his team thanks to the addition of hard-hitting comic book veterans to the Rippaverse team and the hype from readers and reviewers generated by the first issue.

How much energy can his detractors muster to try to stifle his success? Clearly not enough. Check out the campaign at Rippaverse.com.
