The long-awaited and, many would argue belated, “Durham Report” has finally been released.
US Attorney John Durham was appointed by Trump Attorney General Bill Barr in April 2019 to examine the US intelligence agencies’ controversial collection of intelligence on the Donald Trump campaign. Barr promised that a status report on Durham’s investigation would come before the 2020 election by Spring, and then delayed that until Summer– but such a report never came.
Then, on Oct. 19, 2020, Barr appointed Durham as “Special Counsel to Investigate Matters Related to Intelligence Activities and Investigations Arising Out of the 2016 Presidential Campaigns.” Barr said the elevated status would help ensure Durham’s investigation could keep going after the 2020 election.
And it did go on– for more than two-and-a-half additional years.
Durham previously served as an Obama-appointed special prosecutor in the 2005 destruction of evidence in allegations of CIA torture. Durham filed no charges in that case.
