As the first act of the new Congress, the Republican majority in the House voted to repeal funding for new Internal Revenue Service employees.
Most voters support the move, according to Rasmussen Reports.
The survey found that 56% say they approve of the House vote to cancel funding for the IRS to hire 87,000 new employees. That includes 40% who say they strongly approve.
Thirty-seven percent (37%) disapprove, indicating they favor the new agents, including 24% who say they strongly disapprove.
When Democrats controlled Congress last year and increased IRS funding in the “Inflation Reduction Act,” Republicans made a campaign pledge to repeal the measure.
After last week’s vote, new House Speaker Kevin McCarthy declared: “Promises made. Promises kept.“
However, unless the Senate also dials back the money and hires and unless President Biden signs on, it goes nowhere.
