Waukesha County Judge Jennifer Dorow announced on Wednesday she’s running for Wisconsin Supreme Court.Dorow said she’s overwhelmed by the tremendous encouragement she’s received over the last month.”After my trial responsibilities settled down, I sat down with my family and close friends. After many discussions and a lot of prayer, I reached the conclusion that now is the right time for me and my family to pursue what I hope will be the next chapter of my judicial career. So today, I am excited to officially announce my candidacy for the Wisconsin Supreme Court,” said Dorow. Justice Patience Roggensack, a conservative on the court, is retiring, setting up a battle for control of the court. “Justice Roggensack’s decision to retire leaves behind a legacy of excellence and large shoes to fill,” said Dorow.Already in the race are former conservative Justice Daniel Kelly, and two liberal candidates, Dane County judge Everett Mitchell and Milwaukee County judge Janet Protasiewicz.”Would you consider yourself a conservative judge?” WISN 12 News’ Joyce Garbaciak asked Dorow on Monday.”I would consider myself to be a judicial conservative,” Dorow said.”OK, and what do you see the court’s role in major policy issues like abortion, redistricting, Act 10?” Garbaciak asked.”A judge at its core should be someone who interprets the law and applies the law to the facts of the case,” Dorow said.Dorow gained recent prominence after sentencing Darrell Brooks and presiding over the high-profile Waukesha Christmas Parade attack trial.The top two candidates in the February primary – no matter their political leanings – will advance to spring election in April.
