Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, who resigned from his position in August, is expected to be arrested and charged next week with a misdemeanor in regards to the groping of a former aide.
The action would come as a result of a probe conducted by Albany County District Attorney David Soares, a source familiar with the matter told the New York Post.
“A spokesman for the state Office of Court Administration confirmed that a misdemeanor complaint against Cuomo ‘has been filed in Albany City Court,'” the outlet wrote.
“As this is a sex crime, a redacted complaint will be available shortly,” spokesman Lucian Chalfen added.
The high probability of Cuomo’s arrest next week is thought to be the reason why Attorney General Letitia James decided to launch her governor campaign “shortly,” the source stated.
James’ office filed a report in August that found Cuomo had sexually harassed 11 women, including nine current or former state workers.
On August 10, Cuomo announced that he would be resigning amidst the sexual misconduct scandal, and Kathy Hochul would be taking his place.
Following James’ report, a woman, identified as Executive Assistant #1 in the New York attorney general’s office report, filed a criminal complaint against Cuomo, alleging that the former governor reached up her shirt and “cupped her breast.”
