President Joe Biden jokingly told a group of young children Monday that part of his job as president is to “avoid answering” questions from the press.

“As president, see all these people here? They’re with you all the time,” Biden said during remarks, pointing to members of the media in the back of a classroom at East End Elementary, a public school in North Plainfield, New Jersey.

“They get to ask you all kinds of questions, and you try to figure out how you’re gonna avoid answering them sometimes,” Biden added, while laughing.

According to NJ.com, Biden was speaking to preschool students when he visited a pair of pre-K classes at the Somerset County school, the first of two stops the commander-in-chief was scheduled to make in the state Monday to promote his expensive “Build Back Better” agenda being debated in Congress.

A boy named Landon showed Biden the t-shirt he was wearing. “Future president,” the clothing read. “You got to remember me when you’re president,” Biden told the child, before launching into his advice about dealing with reporters.

Biden watched another preschooler’s infrastructure project toppled. “That was my fault,” Biden apologized after the Lego structure fell. “I made you look up.”

“I like Legos,” he said, admiring the multiple building-block creations the preschool students had built as he continued to pitch his spending plans.

Biden has been criticized for not taking questions during press briefings and being too scripted during media appearances. “I’m not supposed to take any questions, but go ahead,” Biden said during a visit to the National Response Coordination Center at FEMA headquarters after Hurricane Ida caused descruction in Louisiana. “I’m not going to answer on Afghanistan now,” Biden said.

When the president does open his mouth, his speeches are littered with gaffes and uncomfortable commentary that’s earned him the nickname “Creepy Uncle Joe.”

At the Capitol Child Development Center in Hartford, Connecticut, the president said mid-October, “Everybody knows I like kids better than people,” a statement that coincides with Biden’s past eyebrowing-raising remarks toward children.
