A recent Gallup poll finds 49% of American adults admitting they “have tried marijuana.”
Gallup says that’s the highest number it’s measure in more than 50 years.
More than a half century ago, only 4% said they tried pot.
In 1977, Gallup says that number was 20%.
It reached 30% in 1985 and 40% in 2015.
As for regular use: about 12% of U.S. adults say they “smoke marijuana.” Gallup says that number has held fairly steady in recent years.
