Hero cops rescue baby and mom pinned under car in Yonkers, horrifying video shows

Two Yonkers cops picking up breakfast tossed aside their bagels and turned into superheroes to free a baby pinned under a car, a scene captured in dramatic video shows.

“We have a baby under the vehicle!” ” Somebody’s got to pull them out!” “Grab the baby!” “C’mon. C’mon!” Officers Paul Samoyedny and Rocco Fusco yelled in the heart-stopping footage released by the Yonkers Police Department Friday night.

“I got the baby,” one of them says, lifting the little girl up from under the 2005 Hyundai Elantra.

The rescue unfolded around 8:30 a.m. Friday after an out-of-control driver slammed into a parked car on Lake Avenue and struck an unsuspecting mom crossing the street with the 8-month-old. The pair were dragged through a storefront before the vehicle finally stopped inside a barber shop.

Bystanders rushed to help along with the officers who were in the bagel shop next door.

The 36-year-old mother suffered a fractured femur and the baby suffered a skull fracture and third-degree burns on her back and foot, cops said. Police said they are expected to survive their injuries.

“Amazing job by all involved. Hope the baby is ok. Back. The. Blue. All day. And those around too did an amazing Job,” posted one commenter to the Yonkers Police Department Instagram story.

The driver of the vehicle, Yonkers resident David Poncurak, 43, was charged with driving while intoxicated, aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle and vehicular assault, police said.

“It is always a tragedy when someone is injured by the reckless and criminal acts of another person and that is only amplified when those injured include an infant,” Yonkers Police Commissioner John Mueller said in a statement hailing the team effort.

“Luckily, two veteran officers of Yonkers’ Finest just happened to be getting breakfast next door and quickly took action along with members of the community to rescue a child trapped under the vehicle and render aid to her mother. The actions taken are nothing short of heroic.”
