Israel’s Ministry of Health has announced a team to look further into a “probable” link between Pfizer/BioNTech’s Covid-19 vaccine and heart inflammation, particularly in male teens.
In the U.S., the CDC has announced it’s looking into reports of heart issues, particularly in young people, after Covid-19 vaccination. All of the Covid-19 vaccines in use in the U.S., plus the Astra Zeneca vaccine not being administered in the U.S., have been linked to potential heart problems, including blood clots. Health officials say the incidences are rare and, so far, provide no reason for young people not to get vaccinated.
According to the Israeli announcement:
- Myocarditis is usually a mild illness, characterized by such symptoms as chest pains, shortness of breath or rapid heart palpitations.
- This illness usually appears among younger men, aged 16 to 30.
- It usually involves short-term hospitalization.
Israel’s Health Ministry says most of the myocarditis illnesses linked to the Covid-19 vaccine are “minor,” yet it also says most of them required hospitalization. Any long term impact is a question mark at this stage.
There is some probability for a possible link between the second vaccine dose and the onset of myocarditis among young men aged 16 to 30. This link was found to be stronger among the younger age group, 16 to 19, compared to other age groups.
