Ninety percent (90%) of affluent American households gave to charity last year, despite the pandemic. Households with a net worth of $1 million or more or an annual income of $200,000 or more were considered “wealthy” households, in a recent study reported in Philanthropy.com.
Twenty-one percent (21%) of those wealthy household donors made donations specifically in response to the pandemic, according to the survey.
Eighty-six percent (86%) of affluent Americans maintained or increased their giving last year.
There was a reported increase to charities that provide basic needs such as food, shelter, and medical care. Giving giving to education, arts, and cultural institutions decreased.
Thirty percent (30%) reportedly volunteered their time last year.
