Experts: Women under age 50 should avoid Johnson and Johnson Covid-19 vaccine over concerns about blood clots


An editorial recently published in the Journal of the American Medical Association recommends women under age 50 avoid the Covid-19 vaccine made by Johnson and Johnson due to concerns about blood clots.

The recommendation is accompanied by a description of 12 case reports of a blood disorder known as cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST) with thrombocytopenia following the Johnson and Johnson vaccine.

While 12 cases seems insignificant among millions of vaccinations, scientists have established that only a small number of the actual incidences of adverse events are officially reported. Therefore, the assumption is that the true number of cases is many fold higher.

The U.S. put a temporary “pause” on Johnson and Johnson shots but resumed recommended use with the placement of a new warning on the vaccine’s label.
