At a recent Congressional hearing, Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky) challenged Dr. Anthony Fauci to cite Covid studies in support of his positions regarding masks, reinfection, natural immunity, and vaccinations.
Fauci had commented that the general public may continue needing to wear masks into next year.
For his part, Paul cited several studies that concluded Covid-19 reinfections are extremely rare and that immunity from natural infection could last many years.
Paul also pointed to the absence of studies on the topic of whether people infected with Covid-19 or vaccinated could spread the virus.
He then asked Fauci what studies he relies on to support his recommendation that the public should be wearing masks into 2022.
“If we’re not spreading the infection, isn’t it just theatre?” asked Paul.
Fauci disagreed with Paul that masks are “theatre,” but did not cite any studies that support his position that the general public needs to wear masks into 2022.
