President Biden’s photo op is ended as media begin to ask questions

Reporters may not have liked the answers he gave, but it is undeniable that President Trump took a lot of their questions.

So far, President Biden has been a lesson in contrasts.

Seven weeks in office, he has yet to hold a single one of the free-wheeling type of news conference Trump became known for.

Biden also skipped giving the traditional president’s in-person address to a joint session of Congress.

At a brief photo opportunity today, a simple, short question from the press gallery seemed to prompt an end to the recorded part of the event. The Biden administration’s media handlers shouted down further questions and shuttled the press out of the room.

Under other presidents, media handlers also sometimes pushed the media out of the room to avoid questions. Presidents sometimes choose to take questions if they hear one they want to answer.

For Biden, there have been few opportunities to hear from him at all. The White House has announced he will make his first public address to the nation on Thursday in a “direct-to-camera” performance.

Watch this week’s earlier press availability below. The question is asked around 13:00 (thirteen minutes) into the event. President Biden and Veterans Affairs Secretary Denis McDonough visited the Washington, D.C. Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
