US Attorney Launched Criminal Investigation into Cuomo’s Handling of COVID-19, Nursing Homes After Aide’s Call Leaked
The criminal investigation, in contrast to a months-long civil probe, began only after media outlets reported on Cuomo aide Melissa DeRosa’s remarks on a Feb. 10 call with lawmakers about nursing home COVID death statistics.

The Brooklyn U.S. Attorney’s Office did not initiate its criminal investigation into Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s coronavirus task force and its handling of COVID-19 in nursing homes until after the audio recording of a Cuomo aide’s call with state lawmakers became public last week, a source with knowledge of the matter told the Law Journal on Thursday.
