Uber may be banned in London, one of its biggest markets
Transport for London, the agency that regulates taxis and for-hire vehicles in the city, has stated it won’t renew Uber’s license to operate, citing a “pattern of failures” on safety. Uber is allowed to operate in London for another 21 days, and it plans to appeal the ruling. Uber has every reason to avoid a forced Brexit of its vehicles: 24 percent of its ride-hail gross bookings in 2018 came from just five metropolitan areas—Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, São Paulo, and London.
Climate change is brutal for everyone, but worse for women
The scientific community agrees that the earth is warming, the change is causing catastrophic disasters, and all humans are feeling the effects. But a new study in the journal Nature Climate Change outlines the ways climate change is specifically harming women in Africa and Asia. In East Africa for instance, men are having to travel farther to find valuable resources that were once plentiful, leaving women behind to work double and triple shifts, and sacrifice their education and health in the process.
