Today, we’ve got some updates on Charlie’s Angels’ box office take (not good!), Sara Lee’s response to last weekend’s Saturday Night Live sketch (surprisingly positive!), and the internet’s campaign to #ReleaseTheSnyderCut (still happening, apparently!). Why #ReleaseTheSnyderCut Is Trending
First, some background: Prior to the release of 2017’s Justice League, director Zack Snyder stepped away from the film following the death of his daughter, and Joss Whedon finished it. Ever since, fans have been calling for the release of Snyder’s version of the film, which allegedly exists, as if it’s the original cut of the Zapruder film. This weekend, on the second anniversary of the movie’s release, stars Ben Affleck (Batman) and Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman) took to social media to demand someone #ReleaseTheSnyderCut. Naturally, it began trending, and reignited a flame that everyone thought had died. Snyder himself retweeted the pair, adding “This ancient Amazonian can’t be wrong. Neither can Batman.” Here we go again.
Sara Lee Is Still Getting Inappropriate Messages After SNL Sketch
ICYMI, over the weekend, Saturday Night Live did a sketch featuring Harry Styles as a Sara Lee Bread social media manager who kept leaving explicit messages using the brand’s Instagram account. (It’s below, for your reference.) Afterwards, unsurprisingly, fans who caught the sketch thought it might be funny to leave similar comments on Sara Lee’s actual Instagram account. Comments like, “Wreck me king.” The company was a little shocked at first, but now seems to be cool with it. “We didn’t know about or participate in the creation of the skit so as you can imagine, waking up to all those comments threw us for a bit of a loop,” Sara Lee said in a statement to the Advocate. “We didn’t delete any comments but did temporarily hide them until we could read through and understand what happened. All comments are now visible and we will be monitoring for any that violate Instagram standards. While the explicit jokes in the skit do not align with Sara Lee Bread’s brand, we know SNL pushes the envelope for laughs and are taking it all in stride.”
Charlie’s Angels Isn’t Doing Very Well at the Box Office
Finally, some disappointing news for Kristen Stewart fans. Charlie’s Angels made only $8.6 million at the box office domestically this weekend. All told, the movie—written, directed, and produced by Elizabeth Banks—made just $27.9 million worldwide. Not a good morning for Charlie.
