Several states have recently passed laws prohibiting transgender treatment for minors, and most voters say they approve of such laws.
That’s according to Rasmussen Reports.
The survey finds that 58% of likely US voters say they approve of legislation making it illegal to perform surgery on boys to make them appear to be girls or vice versa, including 46% who say they “strongly approve” of such laws.
Thirty-seven percent (34%) say they disapprove of states passing laws to ban such surgeries on minors, including 21% who say they “strongly disapprove.”
There has been a marked spike in such surgeries in recent years with hospitals and doctors making millions of dollar on the controversial procedures.
South Dakota recently became the sixth state to ban surgeries for the psychological disorder known as “dysphoria.” The surgeries include procedures such as removing a boy’s genitals and performing mastectomies on healthy girls. Republican Gov. Kristi Noem signed into law the “Help Not Harm Bill.”
Nationwide, Republican voters are the most likely to voice strong support of such legislation.
Seventy-two percent (72%) of Republicans approve of state laws making it illegal to perform sex-change surgery on minors, including 61% who “strongly approve.”
Forty-five percent (45%) of Democrats approve of states banning sex-change surgery for minors, including 30% who “strongly approve,” while 45% of Democrats disapprove of such laws, including 25% who “strongly disapprove.”
Among voters not affiliated with either major party, 61% at least somewhat approve of state laws making it illegal to perform sex-change surgery on minors, while 30% say they disapprove.
