Republican Congressman George Santos is stepping down from his committee assignments on Capitol Hill as investigations take place about a series of lies. His lying could mark a stain on a brand new Republican-led House that seeks to root out corruption.
Politicians still feel that they can lie and be forgiven. But in the case with Santos, a white lie is not as benign as he’d hope, because it lays the groundwork for more lies, and that pattern bleeds over to one’s core constitution, in the decisions he or she makes, especially ones on behalf of Americans whom he represents. Integrity is a word George Santos still doesn’t seem to understand, and this a problem for Republicans, but it’s a bigger problem for him.
