(POLL) Covid-19 Omicron dims optimism, yet no rising fear of infection

There’s declining optimism that the coronavirus pandemic is fading. That amid recent rises in Covid-19 cases and the apparent take over by the Omicron variant.

However, Americans say they are no more concerned about catching the virus now than they were in recent months.

That’s according to a recent tracking Gallup survey.

Previously, data showed 51% of Americans said they believed the coronavirus situation was getting better.

But the more recent survey indicates only 31% say they believe the Covid situation is improving.

Gallup says, “October had been the first month since June that Americans’ outlook for the situation was more positive than negative, after turning sharply negative over the summer. The outlook was significantly more positive in the first half of the year, during the vaccine rollout — peaking in June, when 89% said the situation was getting better.”

Despite the shifts in American perceptions of how the pandemic is going, fear of getting infected with Covid-19 has been relatively flat since August, where it was reported to be near 40% now it’s slightly lower at 38%.
