POLL: Most Americans do not consider themselves “environmentalists”

Forty-one percent (41%) of those polled by Gallup say they consider themselves an “environmentalist.” That’s far fewer than in decades past.

Nearly twice as many people (78%) said they are an environmentalist in 1991, the historical high point for this question.

The decline in environmentalist identification has been greater among Republicans than Independents or Democrats.

But Americans in all three political groups show sharp drops since the late 1980s and early 1990s.
