The Queensland premier, Annastacia Palaszczuk, has announced a new case of community transmission of Covid-19 on Saturday, after a 26-year-old man tested positive to the virus on Friday.
The new case is a close contact of the 26 year-old, she said, adding that the weekend would prove “critical” to controlling spread. Meanwhile 18 close contacts of the cases have been identified.
The Queensland chief health officer, Jeanette Young, said on Friday the first case, who works outdoors as a landscaper, began to develop symptoms on Monday. He isolated afterwards and has subsequently returned two positive tests.
