Kevin McCarthy Blocks Rashida Tlaib from Hosting Anti-Israel Event at Capitol Building

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy blocked an attempt by radical Rashida Tlaib to host an anti-Israel event at the Capitol Building with anti-Israel groups.

“This event in the US Capitol is canceled,” McCarthy announced in a tweet on Tuesday.

“Instead, I will host a bipartisan discussion to honor the 75th anniversary of the US-Israel relationship.”

“Squad” member Tlaib planned to host event with nine anti-Israel groups titled “Nakba 75 & the Palestinian People,” which McCarthy quickly foiled.

“Nakba,” meaning “catastrophe,” is the Arabic term regarding the events surrounding the founding of Israel.

“It’s wrong for members of Congress to traffic in anti-Semitic tropes about Israel,” McCarthy told the Washington Free Beacon.

“As long as I’m Speaker, we are going to support Israel’s right to self-determination and self-defense, unequivocally and in a bipartisan fashion.”

The description for Tlaib’s event read:

“May 15th marks 75 years since the beginning of the Nakba, which means ‘catastrophe.’ Seventy-five years ago, Zionist militias and the new Israeli military violently expelled approximately three-quarters of all Palestinians from their homes and homeland in what became the state of Israel.”

The event organizers said they aimed to educate members of Congress on the “ongoing Nakba to which Israel continues to subject Palestinians.”

‘Jewish Voice for Peace,’ one of the groups behind the event, is described by the Anti-Defamation League as a “radical anti-Israel activist group that advocates for a complete economic, cultural and academic boycott of the state of Israel” and that “celebrates figures who have been convicted of engaging in terrorism.”

McCarthy said he would replace Tlaib’s event with a bipartisan discussion to honor the 75th anniversary of the US-Israel relationship.

The news comes a week after Tlaib was hit with Twitter’s new “Community Notes” system after she objected to a bipartisan trip to Israel.

Tlaib was reacting to a tweet by Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy about his visit to the country.

Rashida Tlaib claimed in a tweet that “apartheid” Israel “was born out of violence and the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians.”

However, Tlaib was fact-checked by the Community Notes system, which noted Israel was officially created by a United Nations resolution and not violence, although the Palestinian Arabs and surrounding Arab states attempted to crush the state initially.
