(POLL) Majority against Covid-19 vaccine mandate for school children

A majority of Americans do not believe schools should require the Covid-19 vaccine for children to attend school. That’s according to a recent Rasmussen Reports poll.

The poll also showed that Americans have concerns about the safety of these vaccines for children.

Last month, the FDA approved the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine for children ages 5-11, saying it was ‘safe and effective’; but poll results indicate Americans aren’t so sure just yet.

See the breakdown below.

  • 60% of Americans say they are concerned about the vaccine’s safety, including 39% who are very concerned
  • 35% are not concerned, including 17% who are not concerned at all

When American adults were asked whether Covid-19 vaccines should be made mandatory for students, the respondents replied:

  • 35% believe COVID-19 vaccine mandates necessary for students
  • 55% are against requiring students to get vaccinated
  • 10% are not sure

The poll also highlighted the deep political division over this issue, per party lines. See how Democrats, Republicans and those with no party affiliation answered the mandate questions below.

Favor mandates for public school:

  • 61% of Democrats
  • 17% of Republicans
  • 24% of Non-Affiliates

Oppose mandates for public school

  • 77% of Republicans
  • 61% of Non-Affiliates
  • 31% of Democrats

The survey of 1,000 U.S. American Adults was conducted on November 4 and 7, 2021 by Rasmussen Reports.
